In his Keynote speech in Chicago Sunday, Louis Farrakhan, leader of the Nation of Islam, announced that he would provide security of pop singer Beyoncé despite the backlash after her halftime Super Bowl performance.
“She started talking all that black stuff and white folks say, ‘Well, we don’t know how to deal with that,’” he said.
Her show was a tribute to the militant black leader Malcolm X and the Black Panthers, as well as the controversial Black Lives Matter organization — all performed to her song “Formation.”
As a result, law enforcement organizations around the country, beginning with the Miami Fraternal Order of Police, have said they will boycott the singer’s concerts.
Farrakhan also took issue with former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani’s criticism of the singer.
Appearing on “Fox & Friends,” Giuliani called her performance an “outrageous” attack on police officers.
“Look at how you treatin’ Beyoncé now. You gonna picket. You not gonna offer her police protection. But the FOI (Fruit of Islam) will,” Farrakhan said to a cheering crowd.
