Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani weighed in on Donald Trump’s recent comments on 9/11, and defended George W. Bush as a “great president.”
Trump’s attack on former President Bush for having the World Trade Center come down “under his watch” on 9/11 did not sit well with Giuliani, who appeared on Fox News’ “Hannity” on Tuesday.
Though he said he considered the GOP candidate a close friend, Giuliani disagreed with Trump’s line of attack alleging that former President Bush was not truthful about knowledge that could have prevented the terrorist attack.
“I don’t like this idea of saying George W. Bush lied,” he said. “I know George W. Bush. He doesn’t lie.”
“In my view,” he added, “and Democrats can go crazy if they want, I believe he was a great president.”
The former mayor conceded that mistakes were made and in retrospect, it is easy to point out flaws in some of the decisions by Bush and even former President Bill Clinton, but he said he does not hold either one “accountable.” He believes Bush did a “great job” in keeping America safe after the terror attack and handed Iraq over to President Obama “in pretty good shape.”
“There are very few people that have been affected by 9/11 as much as I have,” Giuliani said. “In history, George W. Bush will go down as a great president because he protected America.”
