Valentine’s Day will be a little sweeter for more than 800 girls at a Utah school, thanks to the amazing heart of a fellow student.

High School senior Hayden Godfrey posted on his Facebook page, Thursday “So I did a thing today.”

The “thing” he did was hand out 834 carnations to every single girl at his school for Valentine’s Day, a culmination of a plan he came up with far in advance.

Godfrey, 17, began working part-time jobs over a year and a half ago, bagging groceries, washing dishes and cooking to earn the $450 he needed to buy 900 carnations, according to ABC News. Godfrey’s friends helped the Sky View High School senior prepare and cut the stems when they arrived, three weeks in advance of the holiday. School officials helped Godfrey with the plan, arranging for him to interrupt the last class of the day in order to pull off the feat.

“I think that he’s an amazing kid,” said Assistant Principal Curt Hanks. “I’m speechless at his actions.”

Fellow classmate and Godfrey’s girlfriend, Lilyan Sharp, said it was “very special” and that every girl had a “giant smile on their face.”

Godfrey shared that he wanted to make “as many people as possible” happy this holiday, reported ABC, noting that he has been working up to it for years. Since he was 14, Godfrey would anonymously send flowers to his friends for Valentine’s Day and ultimately had the idea to reach a wider group as, his mother shared, he was saddened to see girls in middle school who had received nothing.

“That broke his heart on Valentine’s Day,” she told ABC. “He wanted every girl to feel joy.”

It can safely be said that this was a mission accomplished for the senior who graduates this spring.

“I think it’s something I’ll remember for the rest of my life,” he said. “I got a lot of ‘thank yous’ that day. It was really cool.”
