Ted Cruz got an unusual interruption at a campaign stop in New Hampshire on Monday.
Two men brought the meeting at a tavern in Raymond to a halt; bearing mirrors and a wooden cross, the duo attempted to “exorcise” the GOP candidate, reported The Dallas Morning News.
“Ted Cruz look in the mirror and let the evil spirit depart!” one of the men said. “He’s possessed by a demon!”
Those in attendance booed the protesters and their interruption as Cruz joked that perhaps Democratic rival Bernie Sanders had orchestrated the incident.
“He’s possessed by a demon! The demon has to leave. That’s why the body is so disgusting to look at!” one of the men said. One of the men shouted at Cruz to look in the mirror so the “the evil can confront itself. Evil body! Evil spirit. Look yourself in the mirror!”
Police ushered the pair out of the room as reporters followed.
“We just had to get rid of the evil spirit. I hope it works,”one man said, pretending to be on the verge of vomiting. “He’s very hard to be in the same room with. We had to exorcise some sort of disgusting evil spirit. There’s a reason that the body is so haggard and disgusting, and the face, and it’s all so weathered and gross and hard to look at.”
The “Trail Blazers Blog” called the men “performance artists” who stayed in character the entire time, and may have been the same who confronted Cruz last week in Iowa.
The Texas senator seemed unruffled as he called the protester “a very confused fellow” and even quipped, “usually lefties don’t believe in God.”
