At a campaign event Monday night, Donald Trump, repeating a supporter’s assessment, basically called Sen. Ted Cruz “a pussy.”
Trump brought up the use of enhanced interrogation methods on suspected terrorists — a practice used during the George W. Bush administration but discontinued under President Obama.
“They asked Ted Cruz, ‘What do you think of waterboarding? Is it OK?’ And honestly, I thought he’d say ‘absolutely’ and he didn’t,” Trump told the gathering. “He said, ‘well…’ You know he’s concerned about the answer. Some people—.”
At that point, Trump was interrupted by a woman in the crowd shouting what she felt about Cruz’s refusal to support waterboarding.
“She just said a terrible thing,” Trump said. “You know what she said? Shout it out because I don’t want to say.”
“You’re not allowed to say and I never expect to hear that from you again,” Trump said. “She said he’s a pussy.”

Trump’s remark got the unconditional support of conservative author, pundit and columnist Ann Coulter, who tweeted:
That’s a fantastic word and, unless you’re writing for Hustler, it’s not offensive. Much punchier than sissy or wuss https://t.co/6IQhJZLi5W

Coulter and Trump fans alike agreed:

@AnnCoulter @MattNegrin Too funny watching the Hollywood/news media clutch their pearls over this.

@AnnCoulter @KazeSkyz Oh for crying out loud @CNN you are just being weenies and making big deal about nothing.

@AnnCoulter I’m glad he finally said something controversial. The Dems support PP & abortions but have a field day w/ a word? Bullshit

But alas, others thought it unbecoming of a presidential candidate.
@AnnCoulter How can you defend this rhetoric from a Presidential candidate?

@mignon_mallon @AnnCoulter @MattNegrin Oh, I know. tRump is soooo Presidential. #CantFixStupid

@AnnCoulter @MattNegrin Don’t you EVER get sick of defending the guy? ? #ImWithStupid #DeadClownWalking

Fox News contributor Lt. Col. Ralph Peters got banned by the cable news network for a short period for using the term to describe Obama. Too bad Colter wasn’t around to defend him at the time.
