Obama to make first presidential visit to US mosque – he picks THIS one?

Of all the mosques in the United States President Obama could have chosen to make the first official presidential visit, he chose one with deep ties to terrorism.

The president has attended several mosques overseas, but Wednesday’s visit to the Islamic Society of Baltimore will mark the first in American. Its purpose is to “celebrate the contributions Muslim Americans make to our nation and reaffirm the importance of religious freedom to our way of life,” the White House announced Saturday.

CBS News White House correspondent Mark Knoller tweeted:

The Baltimore mosque is a member of the Islamic Society of North America, which, along with the Council of American-Islamic Relations, was an un-indicted co-conspirator in the 2008 Holy Land Foundation terror financing trial. Both the ISNA and CAIR purport to be Islamic civil rights organizations.

Several ISNA executives were convicted of contributing money to finance the terrorist group Hamas, according to the Daily Caller.

In addition, a Muslim Brotherhood member served as the Baltimore mosque’s imam for 15 years. The Daily Caller reported:

Mohammad Adam el-Sheikh, who served two stints as ISB’s imam, from 1983 to 1989 and from 1994 to 2003, was a member of the Muslim Brotherhood in Sudan in the 1970s. He also co-founded the Muslim American Society, a Falls Church, Va.-based group that is controlled by the Muslim Brotherhood.

While in Baltimore, el-Sheikh served as a regional director for the Islamic American Relief Agency. That group’s parent organization is the Islamic African Relief Agency, which the Treasury Department says provided funds to Osama bin Laden, al-Qaeda, Hamas and other terrorist organizations.

After leaving Baltimore, el-Sheikh served as imam at the infamous Dar al-Hijrah Islamic Center in Falls Church.

While at that mosque, he defended the Palestinians use of suicide bombers against Israelis.

“If certain Muslims are to be cornered where they cannot defend themselves, except through these kinds of means, and their local religious leaders issued fatwas to permit that, then it becomes acceptable as an exceptional rule, but should not be taken as a principle,” he said in 2004, according to The Washington Post.

Given the president’s purported stance on gay rights and women’s equality, one has to wonder why he’s making the visit at all, even absent the mosque’s terror affiliations.

And indeed, el-Sheikh is depicted in a 2013 video speaking passionately against gay rights, as well as politicians who pander to gays.
