Trump announces details of revenge event to compete with Fox News debate; CNN gets lucky break

Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump will hold an event opposite the Fox News GOP debate that he’s declining to attend, which will be broadcasted on CNN.

Trump is skipping out on the debate because Fox News Channel refused to bend to his demand that host Megyn Kelly be removed as debate moderator, ultimately escalating into a public power struggle.

Business Insider politics reporter Colin Campbell tweeted the particulars of the counter-event, as provided in an Eventbrite page:

In what may turn out to be unfortunate timing, Trump said that proceeds from the event will be donated to veterans organizations. The Wounded Warriors Project, one of the biggest veterans charities, has been called out this week in an investigation for its lavish and inappropriate spending.

Conservative author and columnist Ann Coulter, who is a huge Trump supporter, tweeted:

When Trump originally broached the idea of not appearing at the debate, a Fox News spokesman taunted the real estate developer, stating that politicians can’t pick and choose moderators, and that “we’re very surprised he’s willing to show that much fear about being questioned by Megyn Kelly.”

Trump would later claim that his refusal to appear at the debate has nothing to do with Kelly. He tweeted:

Whatever the reason, Thursday night is going to be a ratings war between Fox News and CNN.
