As if she neededĀ moreĀ bad news, a former Obama administration secretary of defense made a devastating assessment concerning Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton.
Robert Gates, who served in the same capacity under George W. Bush, said, āI think the odds are pretty highā that countries hostile to the interests of the United States hacked into the former secretary of stateās private email server.
He basedĀ his assessment on āthe fact that the Pentagon acknowledges that it gets attacked about a hundred thousand times a day,ā he said to conservative talk radio host Hugh Hewitt Thursday.
Hewitt noted that āthe intelligence communityās inspector general has said there was a lot of very highly classified information on her server,ā and asked if that was something of concern.
āYeah, thatās a concern for me. I never used email when I was head of CIA or head of the Department of Defense,ā Gates said.
āAs I used to joke, I didnāt want to have some chief of station overseas email me and say he was going to do something if I didnāt get back to him in three hours, and I would get back from a five hour hearing to discover I was two hours too late. I preferred dealing with people face to face and putting a signature on a piece of paper on matters of real national security and importance.ā
Earlier in the week, intelligence Inspector General Charles McCullough reported that Clintonās private server contained classified information higher than Top Secret, described as āthe crown jewels of the American intelligence community,ā by former CIA agent Charles Faddis.
In response, Clintonās press secretary accused McCullough, a non-partisan, independent Obama appointee, of colluding with Republicans to damage her presidential run.
