Denmark facing disease epidemic from infected refugees

Denmark is facing an epidemic of diseases unseen in the country for nearly two decades due to unvaccinated refugees carrying infections like diphtheria, authorities reported.

Danish news “The Local” reported that, although Denmark does not currently conduct health screens of incoming migrants, as other European nations do, immigration officials are discussing a change.

Diphtheria was found in two Libyan refugees, the Danish State Serum Institute reported Tuesday, warning hospitals to be vigilant. Some asylum seekers have been found carrying malaria and tuberculosis as well, reported the Local.

“There is no doubt that infectious diseases are coming in with the refugees that we aren’t used to,” said SSI spokesman Kurt Fuursted.

Twitter users reacted to the news.
