Liberal celebrities are falling into line like a row of ducksĀ on the non-issue of the all-white Academy Award nominations for the second year in a row. The latest grumblers areĀ rap artist Snoop Dogg and Hollywood A-lister George Clooney.
Of the two, the rapperās announcement was definitely more colorful — and profane.
He indicated that he would be joining the boycott of the Academy Awards ceremony initiated byĀ Jada Pinkett-Smith and Spike Lee because it “ain’t got no n*gg*s nominated.ā
“Somebody aksĀ me, was I gonna watch the motherf***ing Oscars. F*** no,”Ā Snoop Dogg began. “What the f*** am I gonna watch that bulls**t for. They aināt got no n*gg*as nominated. All these great movies and all this great sh*t you keep stealing from us.ā
He ends by repeating āF**k you!ā
Hereās a clip with most of the profanities beeped out. (But even with the beeps, itās pretty rough.) For those who want the unedited version, go to TMZ.
Clooney was more circumspect in his objections.
“Think about how many more African Americans were nominated,” Clooney told Variety. “I would also make the argument, I donāt think itās a problem of who youāre picking as much as it is how many options are available to minorities in film, particularly in quality films?”
He later added: “WeĀ should have been paying attention long before this. I think that African Americans have a real fair point that the industry isnāt representing them well enough. I think thatās absolutely true.”
Four films with strong African American talent were “Creed,” “Concussion,” “Beasts of No Nation,” and “Straight Outta Compton,” in Clooneyās estimation, but all were snubbed.
Sylvester Stallone received the only nomination for āCreed,ā and “Straight Outta Compton” received a single nomination for best screenplay.
“There should be 20 or 30 or 40 films of the quality that people would consider for the Oscars,” he said. “By the way, weāre talking about African Americans. For Hispanics, itās even worse. We need to get better at this. We used to be better at it.”
Although he voiced his strong objections to this yearās nominations, he fell short of announcing an outright boycott.
