A German town has banned all migrant men from the public pool, after women filed complaints about harassment.
Six women had filed complaints “over the sexually offensive behaviour of some migrant men at the pool,” prompting officials in Bornheim to ban all male asylum seekers from use of the public pool, reported Sky News. Officials said they’ll be banned until they learn “the right of women in Germany is inviolable.”
“There have been complaints of sexual harassment and chatting-up going on in this swimming pool … by men,” Bornheim deputy mayor Markus Schnapka told Sky News. “And this has prompted some women to leave. This led to my decision that adult males from our asylum shelters may not enter the swimming pool until further notice.”
City officials have launched a campaign to teach the migrants about respect for women.
Germany has taken in more than 1 million migrants this year, primarily from war-torn Syria, Afghanistan and Iraq, in a move that initially prompted praise, but has led to backlash against public officials as the realities continue to set in.
Bornheim is just south of Cologne, where migrant men allegedly sexually assaulted, raped and robbed hundreds of German women on New Year’s Eve. The city’s police chief was fired last week over his handling of the assaults.
