Kim Davis, the Kentucky county clerk who favored jail to issuing same-sex marriage certificates, will be a guest at President Barack Obama’s final State of the Union address Tuesday.
Her appearance, as well as that of her attorney, Mat Staver, was arranged by the conservative pro-traditional marriage Family Research Council, according to the Washington Examiner.
Davis’ appearance is in answer to one of the president’s own guests, James Obergefell, the plaintiff in the case that led to the U.S. Supreme Court’s landmark decision that made same-sex marriage legal in all 50 states.
The Examiner reported:
Davis, the Rowan County clerk, refused to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples because it conflicted with her Christian beliefs. She spent five nights in jail. Her case helped to push religious liberty into the presidential contest.

Obergefell will join 24 other presidential guests, including a Syrian refugee, who will sit in First Lady Michelle Obama’s box during the address.
