Wildly weird or especially effective?
Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz released a campaign ad Tuesday that a MSNBC hosts found “weird.”
Titled “Invasion,” it depicts a mass of lawyers, journalists and business executives apparently running across the border, with briefcases and portfolios in hand.
In a voice-over, the senator from Texas says that the political discourse on immigration “would be very, very different if a bunch of lawyers or bankers were crossing the Rio Grande.”
After adding journalists to the mix, Cruz says “then we would see stories of the economic calamity that is befalling our nation.”
“That’s just a weird ad,” “Morning Joe” co-host Joe Scarborough said after running the spot. “That’s not going to connect with anybody.”
Co-host Mika Brzezinski agreed.
“I’m so glad you said that,” she told Scarborough, and later advised the Cruz campaign to “Get your money back.”
