Trey Gowdy threatens to FORCE Kerry to testify about Hillary’s Benghazi emails

Congress’s resident pit bull, Rep. Trey Gowdy, said Sunday that because Secretary of State John Kerry has resisted efforts to produce documents, he may end up calling on him to testify about Hillary Clinton’s emails and the 2012 terrorist attack on Benghazi.

Appearing on CBS News’ “Face the Nation,” the South Carolina Republican told host John Dickerson that he met with Kerry’s chief of staff privately “without the drama” of a public grilling, but also without success. So their next meeting will be in a public forum, he said.

And it might not stop there.

“If I don’t get satisfaction from that public interaction with his chief of staff, the next person to come explain to Congress why he has been so recalcitrant to turn over documents will be the secretary himself,” said Gowdy, the chairman of the House Select Committee on Benghazi.

“I want to get this investigation over with and he [Kerry] is the only thing standing between me and a completed investigation,” he continued.

The Clinton email scandal grew  last week when the State Department disclosed that it failed to receive at least 15 Libya-related emails between Clinton and her friend, Sidney Blumenthal. All her official emails were stored on Clinton’s private server.

Kerry’s refusal to provide the committee with the documents it’s requested has slowed the investigation down, Gowdy said.

“They haven’t given us emails for nine of the 10 senior aides that she [Clinton] had,” Gowdy told Dickerson. “It’s been over a year, and we don’t have a single scrap of paper from nine of the 10.”

Although the State Department acknowledged Friday that Clinton hasn’t turned over all her official emails and has no idea whether there are still more that are missing, department spokesman John Kirby indicated that there are no plans to investigate the matter further.

Then Gowdy said recent events have undercut Clinton’s defenses on the email scandal.

“You will remember, in her single press conference she said that she had turned over everything related to work to the Department of State. We know that that is false,” Gowdy said.

“She said the emails from Sidney Blumenthal were unsolicited. We know that that was false. So, so far, she also said that she had a single device for convenience. We now know that she had more than a single device,” Gowdy said.

“So every explanation she’s offered so far is demonstrably false.

“We know that her seminal point — ‘don’t mind my unique email arrangement, you have everything you’re supposed to have’ —  we know that that is patently false,” he continued.

Emails Blumenthal turned over last week show that Clinton actively sought information from him about Libya and other nations. Records also show that Clinton used an iPad to send some emails. That contradicts her claim that she sent both private and work-related emails from a single account because she wanted to use only one device for “convenience.”

When Dickerson asked when Clinton will testify before the committee, Gowdy was noncommittal.

“Just as soon as the Department of State decides to give me the documents that I need to have a constructive conversation with her,” he said.
