See-to-believe school dress code creates trouble: No one wants to see your ‘sausage rolls’

A Pennsylvania high school has come under fire after a highly detailed dress code was distributed to students in preparation for upcoming graduation ceremonies.

But the intricate details weren’t necessarily the problem.

It was the colorful descriptions used to deter students from dressing inappropriately that drew the ire of some teen girls at Biglerville High School. Perhaps it was because the descriptions read like they were drawn from real-life observations.

And as everyone knows – truth hurts.

“Ladies: Chose modest attire. No bellies showing, keep “the girls” covered and supported, and make sure that nothing is so small that all your bits and pieces are hanging out,” the description read.

The straightforward dress advice didn’t end there.

Administrators reminded the female students that they would be elevated while walking on stage to receive their diplomas – something to keep in mind if you were to wear a short skirt. So in other words, don’t.

The letter went on to say, “Please remember as you select an outfit for the awards assembly that we don’t want to be looking at ‘sausage rolls’ as Mrs. Elliott calls them. As you get dressed remember that you can’t put 10 pounds of mud in a five-pound sack.”

That was enough to send senior student Brianna Burtop, into action. She took offense to the protocols and posted the dress code on Facebook.

“I didn’t know it was OK to insult your female students. Weight shouldn’t be used for comedic relief,” she wrote, with a picture of the offending letter.

Her post received a lot of feedback from those supporting Burtop, along with plenty of people who think she should just lighten up.

Good grief.

The social media attention prompted school administrators to respond in a statement that they “regret the document contained unfortunate word choices.”

Burtop and her mother threatened a sexual harassment suit according to Yahoo, but say they won’t be filing (really?). Burtop conceded she will just have to be satisfied that the school agreed to change the letter.

Remarkably, the school’s protocols, drafted by an author who has since retired, had been handed out for years with no formal complaints – until now.
