Washington Post columnist Kathleen Parker gave Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton some good advice Sunday: She needs to loosen up and discard her “inner Ayatollah.”
NBC’s “Meet the Press” panel inevitably turned its attention to the Clinton campaign rollout — or maybe “crawl out” would be a better term, given how carefully it was structured.
Parker, clearly a Clinton fan, said she was highly “disappointed in that rollout,” and claimed the candidate displayed none of the qualities that make her a good campaigner.
“She’s engaging, she’s warm, she’s charming” in person, according to Parker, and “the American people are not seeing that.”
Parker described Clinton’s approach as being too phony when she tells a room that she’s there to listen to everyone’s ideas “and you have like four people sitting around you.”
The most specific advice she could offer Clinton was for her to become her warm, engaging and charming self. The strident, calculating and bossy public persona is hurting her image Parker said.
“She has to let this inner Ayatollah get out of her head,” Parker told the panelists.
Earlier in the segment, Parker apologized for what may have been a Freudian slip, when she described Clinton as one who “has been living on the public dole essentially” for 25, 30 years.
