The Obama administration is one of the least trusting and most secretive of any presidential administration in recent history — except when it comes to the secrets of our most important allies.
The Pentagon quietly declassified sections of a top-secret defense document last month detailing Israel’s covert nuclear weapons program — information Israel wanted kept secret to avoid an arms race, according to Israel National News.
The report, as it pertains to Israel, was declassified as the result of a lawsuit filed by a virulent anti-Israel organization after the Defense Department dragged its feet responding to the group’s Freedom of Information Act, or FOIA request.
Hwever, the timing of its declassification is suspicious, having occurred in the days leading up to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s controversial address before a joint meeting of Congress, which escalated differences between the Israeli leader and President Obama.
Adding to the suspicion, while details of Israel’s nuclear program were declassified in the 386-page report entitled “Critical Technological Assessment in Israel and NATO Nations,” those of NATO countries such as Italy and France were redacted.
Israel is “developing the kind of codes which will enable them to make hydrogen bombs,” the 1987 report says. “That is, codes which detail fission and fusion processes on a microscopic and macroscopic level.”
“As far as nuclear technology is concerned the Israelis are roughly where the U.S. was in the fission weapon field in about 1955 to 1960,” the report reveals, noting a time frame just after America tested its first hydrogen bomb.
Israel National News reported:
US journalist petitioned to have the report published based on the Freedom of Information Act. Initially the Pentagon took its time answering, leading Smith to sue, and a District Court judge to order the Pentagon to respond to the request.
Smith, who heads the Institute for Research: Middle East Policy, reportedly said he thinks this is the first time the US government has officially confirmed that Israel is a nuclear power, a status that Israel has long been widely known to have despite being undeclared.

Last year, the conference featured speakers from anti-Semitic and pro-Islamist publications. During the Q & A session, a speaker openly called for education about the supposed “Zionist-Nazi collaboration” during the Holocaust, while another endorsed the possibility that “Israel had a hand in 9/11.”
During an Al Jazeera America interview, New York Times editor former Jill Abramson had this to say of the Obama administration.
“It is the most secretive White House that I have ever been involved in covering,” she told the interviewer, according to The Huffington Post.
But apparently that secrecy doesn’t apply to our allies — especially those with which the administration has a disagreement.
