MSNBC struts Cinco de Mayo stereotypes; Fox would be pummeled for this!

If they weren’t so liberal, someone might think they were making fun of Mexicans.

Those “race sensitive” types at MSNBC broke new ground in political offensiveness Monday by marking the Cinco de Mayo holiday with a bottle of tequila and a sombrero right out of spaghetti-western central casting.

cincodemayomsnbc0505The scene came during the break between “Way to Early” and “Morning Joe,” when “Way to Early” host Thomas Roberts explained the meaning of Cinco de Mayo while producer Louis Burgdorf sauntered into view, chugging from a bottle and swaying to the mariachi band in his head.

After briefly describing the 1862 battle of Puebla and a Mexican army’s victory over superior French forces, Thomas noted that the holiday is also “an excuse to drink tequila on a Monday morning at work for Louis.”

It was supposed to be funny, no doubt, but since when has humor been an excuse for the PC crowd when it comes to a hint of ethnic stereotyping?

And now that Cinco de Mayo is getting elevated by juvenile Hispanic activists on campuses like Dartmouth University from an obscure, made-up beer holiday to some PC combination of Easter and the Chinese New Year, you can only wonder at the outrage that’s going to break over the network for this kind of sacrilege.

Actually, as Mark Finkelstein over at Newsbusters points out, there’s going to be no outrage. This is MSNBC.

If it had happened on Fox, the FCC would already have opened a case file and someone would have announced they were boycotting Arizona. President Obama would have announced that if he’d had a Mexican son, he would have looked just like that in a sombrero drinking tequila on a Monday morning.

But this is MSNBC, and no one can ever accuse the kind of liberals who employ Al Sharpton of being racist.

Or  funny
