House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi turned on her most strident tone Thursday when a reporter asked her point blank a question she refused to answer.
But it didn’t stop the questioner — or the social media mockery that followed.
The crucial question came from a reporter for CNSNews.com during a routine Capitol Hill briefing:
“In reference to funding for Planned Parenthood: Is an unborn baby with a human heart and a human liver a human being?”
And the follow-up:
“If it’s not a human being, what species is it?”
Watch Pelosi’s irritated, sputtering response in the exchange:
Cramming that many irrelevancies into a single non-answer isn’t easy, but Pelosi is a veteran of Washington double-talk, so first listeners are treated to her magnanimous welcome of the questioner, even if she doesn’t know who he is. Then we learn that she claims to be a practicing and “devout” Catholic (though the Catholic church’s teaching on abortion is crystal clear), then we learn that she has borne children.
But no matter how hectoring her tone might get, none of that gives her a pass on giving her opinion, as a public servant, on a central moral issue.
Then again, according to Pelosi, the central moral issue of what constitutes a human life “has no basis in what public policy it is that we do here.”
To be fair to the San Francisco Democrat, she was only the most recent of a series of Democrats who’ve been asked the same question by CNSNews.com in recent weeks. The others, including Minority Whip Steny Hoyer of Maryland, Mark Takai of Hawaii and Luis Gutierrez of Illinois, were similarly uncooperative.
Gutierrez was gutsy enough though — by Democrat standards — to admit he didn’t consider an unborn child in the first trimester to actually be human — because “That decision has already been made, and I’m going to follow the law.”
(Give barbarity of that answer a minute to sink in.)
Pelosi’s non-answer — and dismissive attitude — didn’t go unnoticed on social media. One even called the the “dumbest most dipshit response in history.”
@LukeRussert That’s not a logical argument.

@cnsnews But, Pelosi says she’s a devout practicing Catholic. Sure has a strange way to show it
