A Detroit burglary was interrupted Thursday when the homeowner shot one of the suspects who then fled the scene in getaway vehicle, only to crash into a neighbor’s house and died.
Detroit Police Sgt. Michael Woody said two armed men who gained entry into the home by breaking a window were met by the homeowner, who was also armed, according to MyFoxDetroit. The homeowner shot at the burglars who returned fire. The driver was hit and the two others fled on foot.
A woman who resided in the house that the car collided with was injured. It’s unknown whether the bullet or the crash is what killed the driver.
Fox reported this is the latest in a recent string of home invasions that were thwarted by a resident packing heat, including:
Last week, a homeowner shot two 19-year-old suspects, killing one. In early March, a 17-year-old was fatally shot outside a home on Penrod Street. On March 25, a homeowner with a valid concealed weapons license fatally shot two suspected intruders at his home on Dexter.
