AP reporter asks if WH underwent a ‘group spine-removal procedure’

During a State Department press briefing Thursday, an Associated Press reporter noted the president and secretary of state’s lack of decision-making regarding Syria, and asked whether there was a “group spine-removal procedure at the White House over the weekend.”

President Barack Obama’s reluctance to take political risks is legendary, beginning with the approcimate 130 instances of voting “present” while an Illinois senator, through his apology tour soon after entering the White House, to his total lack of response to the murder of four Americans a year ago in Benghazi, Libya.

The president exhibited this trait most recently when he announced that although he didn’t need congressional approval to launch a limited strike against Syria, he would seek congressional approval. The reasoning is clear — if things go bad in that region, he can always blame Congress for approving the operation.

Incredulously, Sec. of State John Kerry described the president’s decision as “courageous,” prompting an exchange between AP reporter Matt Lee and State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki.

“I don’t understand why he is so full-throatedly in favor of this,” Lee said of Kerry. “He over the weekend said the president was acting courageously by taking this to Congress, and I don’t understand what is courageous about asking permission for something that you say you don’t need and to do what you believe to be the right thing not just morally but in general.”

Lee interrupted Psaki’s attempt to defend the un-defendable.

“Was there some kind of, like, group spine-removal procedure at the White House over the weekend?” he quipped. “I don’t understand. How is this courageous?”
