Scott Jennings smashes race-baiting Democrat’s argument into pieces

Daily Caller News Foundation

Salem Radio Network host Scott Jennings called out Democratic strategist Ameshia Cross Thursday when she claimed Republicans were trying to suppress black voters.

The Indiana state Senate voted down a congressional map that would have eliminated two Democratic-leaning seats in the United States House of Representatives Thursday, despite appeals from President Donald Trump and Republican Gov. Mike Braun of Indiana. Cross told “The Source” host Kaitlan Collins that the effort to suppress votes went on for decades, before Jennings fired back.

“I was born black. I’ll be black all my life. I don’t want to hear anybody say that the Republican Party has not gone out of its way to keep people who look like me away from the ballot box, because it’s painfully untrue. It is something that’s been charged in the courts time after time, decade after decade, particularly across the south, across the south where the largest concentration of black people live,” Cross claimed, with Jennings cutting in to ask, “Where? How? Where and how? Where? How?”

Cross then cited Georgia, which has not engaged in redistricting, and Texas, where the Supreme Court allowed Texas to use maps enacted after Texas Democrats in the state House of Representatives fled to Democratic-controlled states like New York and Illinois in order to thwart a redistricting that could net Republicans multiple seats in the United States House of Representatives.

“The erosion of the Voting Rights Act has been done holistically by the Republican Party. What we see from Donald Trump is someone who wants to and continues to try to expand his power by the most illegal means,” Cross claimed. “So yes, those orders were challenged. And those orders were challenged in Venezuela because, quite frankly, there was no impetus to go there to begin with. What we do know is that more than likely, this was illegal, first and foremost, that’s why he’s trying to hide the videos.”

“OK. So, a couple things: Number one, has anyone ever personally tried to stop you from voting? Answer, no. Number two, there are no illegal orders,” Jennings responded. “Number three, in this country — number three, in this country, I hate to — I hate to remind you of our history, but it was the Democratic Party that tried and tried and tried to suppress black votes in this country, not the Republican Party.”

New York re-drew its congressional districts after the 2022 midterm elections, creating a map that endangered as many as six out of the 11 Republicans elected to the House of Representatives that year.

“I think you need to reread your civil rights history. The Democratic Party doesn’t have a clean record on this,” Jennings said. “But the bottom line is, Democrats are going to continue to be ruthless. They’re going to continue to try to gerrymander. They’re going to continue to try to say the president’s delivering illegal orders to mess up our military. Who knows what they’ll do in Washington from here on out.”

“But the bottom line is, Republicans tonight didn’t do this redistricting,” Jennings continued. “Democrats are going to keep doing it. And if you’re looking for who the most ruthless partisan players are? It’s the Democratic Party.”
