Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has seen enough when it comes to the largely corrupt institution known as Congress, which serves as a haven for a permanent ruling class disconnected from the people.

Be it a refusal to ban congressional stock trading, stop the daily flow of millions of dollars to the Taliban in Afghanistan, or cut off the billion-dollar money spigot to wholly corrupt Ukraine, where the money is more likely to go missing than it is to reach soldiers in the field fighting an unwinnable battle, Congress has failed the American people struggling to make ends meet — at least those who are not on the government dole.

And DeSantis is ready to call a spade a spade.

“Tonight, I joined @USTermLimits to urge legislators from around the country to back efforts to adopt a U.S. constitutional amendment establishing congressional term limits,” the popular Republican posted on X.

“Congress is simply no longer working for the American people and is incredibly unpopular,” DeSantis said. “Unfortunately, entrenched incumbents are nearly impossible to unseat, as 9 out of 10 incumbents win re-election every year despite more than 2/3 of Americans disapproving of Congress. States have the authority to enact term limits, and we need to get it done!”

U.S. Term Limits bills itself as “the nation’s largest nonpartisan, nonprofit organization dedicated exclusively to advocating for term limits.”

“Our mission is to foster a higher quality of government by establishing a citizen legislature,” the group’s website states. “This legislature would more accurately reflect its constituents and be genuinely responsive to their needs. We work tirelessly with citizens across the nation, helping them understand why term limits are a necessary government reform and how to implement this vision from their local town councils all the way to Congress.”

DeSantis is the Republican co-chair for U.S. Term Limits, joining with Democratic co-chair U.S. Rep. David Trone of Maryland. The limits being pursued include two 6-year terms in the U.S. Senate and three 2-year terms in the U.S. House.

Few can argue that the political parties do not exist to serve their needs first and foremost, with the American people being an afterthought, at best. At the same time, the American people regularly vote for more of the same — assuming our elections are not so corrupt that our votes really don’t matter all that much.

Term limits are one of the few issues both sides pretend to support until it’s time to actually DO it. If this becomes real policy, Washington DC is gonna look like a snow globe someone just shook. Fresh air > career politicians every single time.
