President Donald Trump’s recent decision to refer to Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz as “seriously retarded” appears to have backfired.

On Friday, Indiana state Sen. Michael Bohacek, a fellow Republican, announced that he’ll be voting against a Trump-backed state redistricting plan precisely because of Trump’s r-word remarks.

“Many of you have asked my position on redistricting,” Bohacek wrote in a Facebook post. “I have been an unapologetic advocate for people with intellectual disabilities since the birth of my second daughter. Those of you that don’t know me or my family might not know that my daughter has Down Syndrome.”

“This is not the first time our president has used these insulting and derogatory references and his choices of words have consequences. I will be voting NO on redistricting, perhaps he can use the next 10 months to convince voters that his policies and behavior deserve a congressional majority,” he added.

The Facebook post was published only days after Trump blasted Walz as “seriously retarded” over his mishandling of all the fraud that has been committed in his state by Somali foreigners, many of them allies of Somalian Rep. Ilhan Omar.

“The seriously retarded Governor of Minnesota, Tim Walz, does nothing, either through fear, incompetence, or both, while the worst ‘Congressman/woman’ in our Country, Ilhan Omar, always wrapped in her swaddling hijab, and who probably came into the U.S.A. illegally in that you are not allowed to marry your brother, does nothing but hatefully complain about our Country, its Constitution, and how ‘badly’ she is treated,” Trump wrote.

Bohacek’s veritable declaration of war on Trump over this post could itself backfire. Around mid-November, Trump published another Truth Social post calling for primary challenges against anyone in Indiana who “votes against this important redistricting” effort.

“They … should DO THEIR JOB, AND DO IT NOW!” he added. “If not, let’s get them out of office.”

Ever since the president published that post, at least nine state Republican officials have been swatted, most likely by leftists trying to intimidate them into not abiding by the president’s wishes.

The latest threat occurred Sunday, when Indiana state Sen. Jean Leising’s home became the target of a bomb threat:

The media have suggested that the swattings were committed by Trump supporters — a thesis that makes very little sense.

Indiana lawmakers are reportedly scheduled to meet this week to talk further about districting, though according to reports, state Senate leaders have said there aren’t enough votes to move forward with it.

What’s known is that if new maps are approved, Republicans could potentially wind up with two additional national House seats.

The redistricting battle in Indiana has at times also pitted state Republican legislators against their fellow Republican legislators.

“Republicans in the state Senate rebelled against Republican Gov. Mike Braun in November and said they would not attend a special session he ordered on redistricting,” the Associated Press notes.

Another Republican Senator now supports a special session to redraw congressional maps.

“The issue of redrawing Indiana’s congressional maps mid-cycle has received a lot of attention and is causing strife here in our state,” Indiana state Senate President pro tem Rodric Bray said in a statement last week.
