FBI still reeks of Trump Derangement Syndrome months into second admin, report finds

Daily Caller News Foundation

Nearly a year into President Donald Trump’s second term, deep resistance to his agenda persists inside the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), according to an explosive new report.

The report, obtained by the New York Post, was compiled by the National Alliance of Retired and Active-Duty FBI Special Agents and Analysts. The over-100-page report offers a scathing assessment of the bureau under FBI Director Kash Patel’s first six months in office, describing the FBI as a “rudderless ship” where opposition to the president remains entrenched, despite Patel’s repeated pledges to root out corruption and restore integrity.

“The number of FBI employees exhibiting TDS (Trump Derangement Syndrome) … is much more widespread within the FBI,” one anonymous source said, according to the report.

Their personal views are, according to the source, “a major detriment to the FBI’s ability to investigate complex crimes” because “many FBI employees have lost their ability to think critically about an issue and distinguish fact from fiction,” the report continued.

The report further notes that veteran employees increasingly feel the FBI has become “too political,” with employees openly discussing their dislike for the president and making “off-color comments” about the administration. Anonymous sources cited by the report pointed to the tenures of former directors James Comey and Christopher Wray as when objectivity in investigations was lost.

The report also highlighted strong internal pushback against orders directing FBI personnel to assist Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) with locating and apprehending illegal immigrants targeted for deportation.

Special agents and professional staff reportedly “responded negatively-to-very-negatively” to such directives, citing inadequate training, deviation from standard FBI policy and placement in “tactically unsafe positions.”

The report concluded that the collective response “strongly indicated elements of the FBI workforce were resentful and unwilling to do more than begrudgingly execute the mission.”

One source blamed past recruitment policies that prioritized hiring teachers “who were more ‘left’ leaning in their personal views, including the view that the government could provide solutions to many of today’s problems,” over police officers and military veterans.

Some employees also expressed anger and objection over Trump’s executive order granting pardons or commutations to many individuals involved in the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riot. One employee reportedly said they now “live in fear” that pardoned individuals or others who support what they referred to as “insurrectionist ideology” will target them or their families.

Sources cited in the report, subtitled “A Pulse Check of the First Six Months,” describes Patel as inexperienced, with one saying the director “has neither the breadth of experience nor the bearing an FBI director needs to be successful.” It is expected to be presented to the House and Senate Judiciary Committees this week, according to the New York Post.

Meanwhile, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt on Nov. 25 dismissed a report from MS NOW that the president is considering removing Patel over poor performance and negative headlines, calling such reports “completely made up.”

Neither the White House nor the FBI responded to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s requests for comment.
