An Ohio sheriff earlier this week slammed other law enforcement agencies for having previously released a criminal illegal alien — one who later crashed into and injured a nurse in the sheriff’s own district.

The illegal alien, 27-year-old Guatemalan national Johen Perez-Ventura, was, while drunk, “driving over the center lanes and slammed head-on into another car,” according to local station WLWT.

The crash happened on Thursday, Nov. 20.

Ventura, who later bizarrely alleged that he hadn’t been driving the car but just moving it, was charged on Monday with aggravated vehicular assault, obstruction of justice, OVI, and driving without a license.

His victim, nurse Courtney Steinmetz, was hurt “really bad” from the incident, according to her cousin and best friend, Emma-le Rybolt.

“I answered the phone with ‘what’s wrong?’” she told WLWT, describing the moment she received a phone call from Steinmetz immediately after the crash. “And she said, ‘I’m hurt, it’s really bad.’”

According to Butler County Sheriff Richard Jones, Perez-Ventura shouldn’t have been out on the streets in the first place.

Jones noted in a video published to Facebook that Perez-Ventura was first apprehended crossing the border in 2019 and immediately deported back home. However, after returning to the U.S., he was later charged with assault in Cincinnati in 2023. Later that same year, he was charged with driving drunk. Yet despite his status as an illegal alien, in both incidents, he was released after being arrested.

The following year, he was arrested twice again for drunk driving — and like before, on both occasions, he was simply released.

Jones was furious.

“This low-life piece of s–t named Johen, who has been arrested [four times] for DUIs … he had alcohol in the car, had to be cut out of the car, [went] to the hospital,” Jones ranted in the Facebook video.

“You know who pays for that. We do. … It’s not his first time. … He’s used to this. He was just going to be in the wind. … Not this time. We waited and then [Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE)] made the apprehension,” he added.

Jones added that Perez-Ventura didn’t even have a driver’s license. As to why other agencies had let him off the hook, he speculated that perhaps Perez-Ventura had shown them fake IDs.

“That’s appalling in itself,” he said. “They probably didn’t want to send him to my jail because he would be deported. He [had] already been incarcerated at that point for DUI, assault, and he’d come across the border twice.”

Jones continued by revealing that he’d visited Steinmetz in the hospital after the crash.

“She’s 27, living her dream, working at the hospital as an RN, saving people’s lives. Now today, she’s lying in the hospital,” he said. “She’s not even out of the bed yet. She’s going to be out of work for quite some time. She’ll probably have issues the rest of her life with her spine.”

And, Jones speculated, Perez-Ventura doesn’t even give a damn.

“He doesn’t care,” the sheriff asserted. “You look at his mug shot, he has a smirk on his face. I promise you, he won’t be deported again … He’s going to get a little taste of American prison. … He’ll get a cell until he goes to prison, then he can get deported when he’s a lot older.”

“This low-life is lying in my jail, getting three meals a day, whining and crying. [He] probably doesn’t like the conditions, which they’re a whole lot better than he deserves,” he added.
