Turns out, reading charts is not easy — at least, not for Democrats suffering from Trump Derangement Syndrome.
U.S. Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) stepped on a rake this week when she shared a chart on X the day before Thanksgiving, while taking a shot at President Donald J. Trump.
“Under President Trump, electricity prices are surging — up 11%! — leaving millions behind on their utility bills, with past-due balances at an all-time high. American families deserve better,” she posted.
The problem for Klobuchar is that the chart she shared reflects data that largely occurred under President Joe Biden, not Trump.
“Klobuchar out here dunking on Biden on Thanksgiving. Love it,” conservative commentator Scott Jennings said in sharing the Democratic senator’s post.

As seen above, Community Notes replied to Kobuchar’s post, “Joe Biden was President from January 20, 2021 – January 20, 2025. Also, this chart is not representing the cost of electricity. It is showing the average past-due balances of Americans, which soared since 2022 under Joe Biden’s presidency.”
In the end, her post may say more about the Democratic base than it does members of Congress — here’s a quick sampling of responses to the story, as seen on X:
I can’t believe she left the post up and didn’t delete

Don’t forget, Scott, Democrats passed the inflation reduction act in 2022 which included their green new deal. Directly responsible for skyrocketing energy prices.

She knows her base will just believe her and not look at the graph.

Klobuchar should have her electricity turned off for this blunder.
