CNN Justice correspondent admits Biden admin had ‘a lot of angst’ about Afghans entering US

With an Afghan national being arrested for the shooting of two National Guard soldiers in Washington, D.C., CNN is reporting that even the Biden administration had “a lot of angst” over who was entering the United States from Afghanistan.

The suspected shooter has been identified as Rahmanullah Lakanwal, 29, who entered the U.S. in 2021 under a humanitarian parole program implemented by former President Joe Biden. US Army Spc. Sarah Beckstrom, 20, died from Wednesday’s shooting in the nation’s capital, while a second soldier is fighting for his life from an attack punctuated by a cry of “Allahu Akbar!”

“There was certainly a lot of angst that they may have missed something, because they kept seeing some of these threats and things would pop up with some of these people who they were investigating,” CNN Senior Justice Correspondent Evan Perez reported, in reference to the Biden administration.

This was after a review of some of the “refugees” entering from Afghanistan, Perez said — Biden allowed 76,000 Afghan nationals to enter the country in 2021, and FBI Director Kash Patel said Thursday that his administration did “absolutely zero vetting” of these refugees.

“There was certainly a lot of angst that they may have missed something, because they kept seeing some of these threats and things would pop up with some of these people who they were investigating,” Perez reported. “And so, that’s always been the concern, and today certainly drives home that concern even deeper.”

Adding to the consternation, Lakanwal, who granted asylum this year, previously served in one of Afghanistan’s elite counterterrorism units run by the CIA.
