Former Obama-era deputy national security adviser Ben Rhodes admitted on Wednesday that White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt is better at her job than her predecessor, Karine Jean-Pierre.
Rhodes said on an episode of “Pod Save the World” that Leavitt was better at her job than Jean-Pierre, along with former Trump-era press secretaries Sean Spicer and Kayleigh McEnany. He stated that Leavitt’s role is to “perform” in front of Trump and insult people whom the president does not like.
“It’s funny with [Leavitt], it’s like, she’s not that good. She’s better than, like, Sean Spicer and then that other woman who’s on Fox now, Kayleigh McEnany. And actually, honestly, like probably better than like, Karine Jean-Pierre,” Rhodes said.

Rhodes and co-host Tommy Viator referenced Leavitt’s response to a reporter’s question on affordability while Trump held a bilateral meeting with Hungarian President Viktor Orban. Leavitt stated during the meeting that Trump is delivering on affordability and criticized the media for refusing to cover it.
Jean-Pierre has repeatedly bragged about being the first black and lesbian press secretary to serve in any administration. She lashed out at critics during a Nov. 4 episode of “Higher Learning” who have bashed her for obsessing over her identity.
“[I]t pisses me off that people who have not walked in my shoes, who have no idea who I really am as a person, get to tell me how I get to identify myself or not … you can’t tell me how I get to identify myself,” Jean-Pierre said. “You can’t tell me how I get to call myself. Like, screw you … that’s not okay.”
The former press secretary lied to the public about former President Joe Biden’s mental state and whether Biden intended to pardon his son, Hunter, from the two criminal indictments against him. After Biden’s infamously disastrous performance at the June 27, 2024, debate, Jean-Pierre assured the American public that Biden would not be dropping out and that he simply had a bad night.
In July 2024, she told reporters that a January meeting between Biden’s doctor, Kevin O’Connor, and neurological specialist Dr. Kevin Cannard was unrelated to the president’s care. The Associated Press’ Seung Min Kim reported that the meeting did, in fact, relate to Biden’s medical care as he received a neurological exam soon afterward.
Since leaving her role at the White House, Jean-Pierre has not found employment, unlike her predecessor, Jen Psaki, who left her role as press secretary to join MSNBC in 2022. She released a book, “Independent,” which details her exit from the Democratic Party over their “betrayal” of Biden.
