Sean Spicer says it was ‘disgusting and pathetic’ for football fans to boo Trump as he enlisted service members

Former White House press secretary Sean Spicer denounced football fans on Monday’s “The Morning Meeting” for booing President Donald Trump during an military enlistment ceremony.

Trump went to the game between the Washington Commanders and the Detroit Lions on Sunday, which took place at the Commanders’ stadium in Maryland and included the president reading an oath for military members to recite, NBC News reported. Spicer said on the 2WAY show that it was fine to boo Trump himself, but the timing was inappropriate and upsetting.

“What appalled me about that was that he was enlisting service members while that was happening on Veterans Day weekend. I found that disgusting and pathetic … you want to boo the president when he arrives or whatever, you have a First Amendment right to do that,” Spicer said. “While members of our country are on the field being sworn into our armed services and that’s how you act — it actually viscerally upset the hell out of me to watch fellow Americans boo people who are on the field getting sworn in to serve our country.”

“[T]here’s a time and a place and that was not it. The guy was there for a while. You want to boo his arrival or his departure? You have a First Amendment right to do that. That was not the time to do it,” he added. “Now, you have a protected right to do it … I want those photos. I will do what I can on social media to make sure that every one of those people that I can find in the audience booing while that was happening gets exposed, because that, to me, is disgusting.”

Trump also joined the Fox Sports broadcast booth during the game, where he did some play-by-play and discussed other topics, including his time playing high school football while attending New York Military Academy.

“We had a quarterback who didn’t have a very strong arm, I would say ten yards was a long pass,” the president said.

“We had a good time, and I loved it. I actually loved playing football,” he added. “We had a good time with it.”
