Police officer under investigation for telling a trans individual that he’s not a woman

An investigation is underway in DeKalb County, Georgia, after a police officer reportedly told a “trans-identified individual” that he is “not a woman.”

According to a report by Reduxx, the suspect, a biological male, was using the female bathroom at the Tucker-Reid H. Cofer Library. Upon stepping out, the officer approached the man and requested that he use the male restroom in the future. The individual, who goes by “Sasha Swinson,” told local news that the officer then said, “You’re not a woman. That’s obvious.”

Swinson then asked whether he was being asked to do so by the library, to which the officer allegedly replied: “This is a police matter. It’s a safety issue. There are women, little girls in there.” He then reportedly threatened to arrest the man.

“After leaving the library, Swinson contacted his pastor, Matt O’Rear of St. Luke Lutheran Church, who encouraged him to report the incident to the library. A library employee apologized to Swinson in writing and forwarded the complaint to leadership, who then relayed it to the police department,” the outlet reported. “Soon afterward, the DeKalb County Police Department’s Internal Affairs Unit contacted Swinson, confirming that an investigation had been opened into the officer who had asked him to use the male bathroom. A department spokesperson said the agency could not share additional details while the investigation is ongoing.”
