Long-standing Somali clan feud reportedly dictates outcome of Minneapolis mayor’s race

Minneapolis averted the catastrophe that awaits New York City when incumbent mayor Jacob Frey fended off Somali-American challenger Omar Fateh, partly due to an ethnic clan feud among factions of the imported third-world demographic.

A self-proclaimed “democratic socialist” who’s a member of the city’s sizable Somali community, the Muslim Marxist should have been a shoo-in, making a powerful team with NYC Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani to implement radical left-wing policies that would serve as inspiration to other aspiring Democrat leaders. Instead, he was tripped up by the very cultural “values” that should have been his ace in the hole.

Ultimately, the Ilhan Omar-endorsed Fateh lost because the clans refused to unite, according to the X intelligence aggregator Rerum Novarum, which noted the foreign concept that has now taken root in the midwestern city.

“A significant number of Somalians in Minneapolis didn’t vote for ethnic Somali Mayoral candidate Omar Fateh due to Fateh being part of the Daarood clan rather than the Hawiye. These deep seeded clan wars allowed Mayor Jacob Frey to rally key community leaders from the Hawiye clan to hold off a challenge from Fateh,” the account explained.

“Representative Ilhan Omar, who endorsed Fateh and is part of the Daarood clan, is reportedly the next target of Hawiye community leaders as they are emboldened by their proxy victory over the Daarood in the Mayoral election, she will possibly face a primary challenge on tribal grounds,” Rerum Novarum added.

One Somali TikTok user also laid out the tribal split that may have cost Fateh the election.

“Our community turned a city election into clan competition,” he said. “We came here to be one Somali and now we’re divided into tribes.”

Fateh may have expressed his loyalty to his ancestral homeland before the election, but in an ironic twist, he was undone by the tribal nature of Somali politics.

According to the Post Millennial: “Per the European Union Agency for Asylum (EUAA), in Somalia’s Mudug region, the Darood clan controls the northern half while the Hawiye clan controls the southern half. A separate report from the EUAA stated that between April 2023 and March 2025, there were multiple ongoing conflicts between the Darood and Hawiye and their subclans across Somalia.”

“The report stated, ‘Group-belonging is important in Somalia. Against the backdrop of decades of state failure and civil war, primary solidarity lies with patrilineal relatives. For protection or gaining access to resources or the job market, most Somalis rely on support by their clan or lineage. Lineage and clan elders mediate conflicts and distribute compensations or mobilise for defence,” according to the independent media outlet.

Import the third world, become the third world.

“How does importing ancient tribal blood feuds from halfway across the world into our country benefit the American people?” Florida Governor Ron DeSantis asked, pointing out the obvious that diversity is not our strength.

While Frey managed to retain control of the city, which is still recovering from the George Floyd race riots of 2020, he now rules over a place that is becoming more of a third-world hellhole by the day.
