Democratic Pennsylvania Sen. John Fetterman said on Fox News Monday that he refuses to demonize political opponents.
Tensions between the parties have escalated since last year, with former Vice President Kamala Harris calling President Donald Trump a fascist. During an appearance on “Jesse Watters Primetime,” Fetterman said Democrats lose credibility when they resort to calling their political opponents “fascists.”
“I refuse to do [it] as a Democrat. I’m not gonna call you a fascist or a Nazi. I’m not gonna compare anyone to Hitler or anything. That’s wrong. And if you resort to that thing, you’ve lost the plot,” Fetterman said. “Because if you call him [Trump] a fascist, then you have to think ‘Well, maybe the people that vote for him — and I know people that love him — are fascists.’ That’s just not true. And I know people that voted for the other side, and they’re not trying to destroy our Constitution.”
Fetterman said he’s determined to talk with people on the other side of the political aisle rather than vilify them. (RELATED: Fox News Host Asks John Fetterman Point Blank If He’d Consider Switching Parties)

“I’m gonna have a conversation with the other side, and that’s where I’m at. And I’m gonna show up and talk to anyone that invites me to be here. Because we really need each other,” Fetterman added.
Fetterman hasn’t hesitated to call out his own party, especially during the government shutdown when he blasted Democratic leaders for refusing to pay essential workers and service members. The Pennsylvania senator urged his colleagues to “cut the shit” and reopen the government, saying that Americans are the ones bearing the cost of the stalemate.
Rhetoric between the parties escalated when Harris called Trump a fascist. Former President Joe Biden said Trump should be locked up. The remarks fueled an already volatile political climate that saw two assassination attempts against Trump — one in July of last year, when he was grazed by a bullet during a rally in Pennsylvania that left a supporter dead, and another last year in September, when Secret Service agents arrested an armed man hiding near his Florida golf club.
