“No Kings” demonstrators have had their jubilation day, but remnants linger on. Every Saturday, I pass by the Arlington (Virginia)Tesla dealer as they giddily hold up protest signs and fly foreign flags. Most look to be pining for Woodstock, where their youthful 1969 selves partied in mud and manure, stoned on Mary Jane for four days in an upstate New York cow pasture.
“No Kings” is a little short on history. Lincoln, Wilson, and Franklin Roosevelt were more imperial than Trump has ever thought to be. Lincoln unconstitutionally usurped Congress’s authority when he suspended habeas corpus and increased the size of the army. Lincoln threatened to arrest Chief Justice Taney and, without warrant, arrested and imprisoned scores of opponents for months on end. Wilson interned German Americans in World War I and locked up three-time Socialist Party presidential candidate Eugene Debs for giving an anti-war speech. FDR seized Montgomery Ward and had its chairman, Sewell Avery, carried bodily from his office. He interned with Japanese, Italian, and German Americans. Violating American and international neutrality law, FDR ordered the US Navy to engage German subs– “sink on sight”—to report U-boat positions to the Royal Navy, and escort Britain-bound convoys. Biden defied the law– Title 8 USC– allowing the country to be invaded, an invasion Democrats wildly celebrated and ignored the Supreme Court decision forbidding student loan forgiveness. In contrast, Trump has obeyed court orders even when the court has ruled against him and has faithfully executed 8 USC, stopping the invasion and removing the invaders. His use of the National Guard to protect federal agents and agencies has been upheld by the courts, and even the 9th Circuit has come down on his side.
More to the point, what are “No Kings” protesting? They’re protesting the enforcement of immigration law and secure borders, they’re protesting removing DEI regulations which discriminate against whites, they’re protesting removing “transgender” from the military, in short, they’re protesting Trump for carrying out the Republican platform. They march for “democracy” but give short shrift to those Americans who democratically elected Trump. In their eyes, we bumpkins just don’t count, which brings us to another point.
Where were these demonstrators when a mob took over a section of Portland and burned down a police station? Where were they when Minneapolis was being torched? Where were they when HHS tried to force Catholic hospitals to perform transgender surgery? Where were they when the First Amendment rights of the Little Sisters of the Poor were being violated? Where were they when the FBI tried to label traditional Catholics terrorists? Where were they when the DOJ tried to intimidate parents objecting to “transgenderism” being foisted on their children? Where were they when Army anti-terrorism training at Ft. Bragg labeled pro-life as terrorism?
Answer: Not to be found. They love to yell “Fascism” without knowing what it is, or that Biden’s administration followed the Fascist playbook. Fascism is the Corporate State, the unity of government, the cartels, the big unions, in other words, dictator Benito Mussolini’s failed authoritarian prescription for the Italian nation. Mussolini’s motto, “Everything in the State, nothing outside the State, nothing against the State,“ is a far cry from Trump eliminating federal agencies to shrink an engorged administrative bureaucracy, a far cry from Randi Weingarten’s statist Teachers Union excluding parents from education, or from Melissa Harris Perry’s Fascistic “… kids belong to whole communities.”
The real objective of “No Kings” is the unitary all-powerful state—government by Biden, like executive orders—the abolition of the American republic by eliminating the Electoral College, turning the senate into another House, and reducing states to satrapies of the central government. “Government of the people” is the last thing they want; their desire is government by the experts, i.e., themselves. To them, Orwell’s 1984 is a guidebook. Trump is right, we bumpkins are the target, he’s just in the way.
