‘Here’s what should happen’: Tom Homan knows a way to stop Pritzker and Johnson from opposing ICE

Daily Caller News Foundation

White House border czar Tom Homan said Tuesday on Fox News that Democratic Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker and Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson should experience firsthand what U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents face before criticizing them.

Pritzker has repeatedly opposed ICE enforcement efforts while downplaying Chicago’s violent crime, calling the city’s summer “amazing” despite dozens of shootings and more than 100 murders. Appearing on “The Ingraham Angle,” Homan blasted the governor and other officials for attacking federal agents while ignoring the realities those agents face on the ground.

“Here’s what should happen. The judge, Governor Pritzker, and Mayor Johnson put on a Border Patrol uniform for one shift. Come out there and stand there with the men and women of the Border Patrol and ICE, and see how you’re going to respond,” Homan told host Laura Ingraham.

Homan said federal agents are rigorously trained to handle volatile situations and do not resort to force unless absolutely necessary.

“The Border Patrol agents are trained very well on the use of force continuum. They don’t go from zero to 100. There’s no use of force against peaceful protesters,” Homan said. “But when they impede them, when they threaten them, when they assault them, when they trespass, use of force is used at the lowest level to make someone comply to the highest level if needed, if the death threat or a serious bodily injury.”

Homan added that the Border Patrol’s training standards remain among the nation’s best.

“So these agents are very well trained. Even back in 1984, when I went to the Border Patrol Academy, you’re well-trained in crowd control and riot control. These are the best-trained men and women that come into riot control, crowd control,” Homan said. “They’re doing it exactly as they were trained to do. So I would question the judge. You know what’s happening? Put on that uniform, stand on that front line, and have stones thrown at you, and see if there’s justification for these men and women to protect themselves.”

ICE agents have increasingly faced violent attacks amid escalating anti-enforcement riots across the country. In Chicago, rioters were filmed calling for agents to be arrested or shot, while in Dallas, two people were killed during a Sept. 24 shooting at an ICE office before the gunman took his own life.

Texas authorities reported two other shootings targeting ICE and Border Patrol facilities since July 4, leading to 10 attempted murder charges. And during a September operation in suburban Chicago, an ICE agent was “seriously injured” after a suspect allegedly dragged him with a vehicle while trying to flee.
