Salem Radio Network host Scott Jennings reminded “CNN NewsNight” host Abby Phillip multiple times Thursday night that New York City Democratic mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani took a photo with an unindicted co-conspirator in the 1993 bombing of the World Trade Center whose children were later convicted on terrorism charges.
Mamdani made a campaign appearance at Bedford-Stuyvesant’s Masjid At-Taqwa mosque on Oct. 17, where he praised Siraj Wahhaj and posted a photo with the imam on X. Jennings criticized the photo, reminding Phillip that former Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo of New York, who is running an independent campaign for mayor, “didn’t make [Mamdani] take that picture.”

“Mamdani took that picture and seems to be pretty proud of it. That’s a legitimate thing to debate,” Jennings said, prompting Phillip to ask, “Isn’t it fair to say that he would cheer on 9/11?”
“He’s taken pictures with unindicted co-conspirators from the World Trade Center bombing,” Jennings responded, with Phillip asking, “I mean, are you willing to say that you really think that he would cheer on 9/11?”
Wahhaj was an unindicted co-conspirator in the 1993 World Trade Center attack, according to The New York Post. Jennings repeated his response about Mamdani taking the photo with Wahhaj, who testified as a character witness for Omar Abdel-Rahman, the blind cleric who received a life sentence for his involvement in the bombing that killed six people and injured hundreds.
“But I’m asking Scott, because Scott seems to think that’s like a totally above board line of attack. Do you think that that’s true?” Phillip asked Jennings, who replied, “I can only tell you what I see on my phone. I see a picture of Mamdani with a guy who was an unindicted co-conspirator from a terrorist attack in New York City.”
“Do you think that was a good picture to take?” Jennings added.
Wahhaj’s son, Siraj Ibn Wahhaj, and two of his daughters were among those convicted on terrorism and child abuse charges in 2023 after federal agents raided a compound in New Mexico.
Mamdani won the Democratic nomination for New York City mayor in June, running on left-wing policies, including establishing government-run grocery stores, free child care, free bus fare and increasing taxes on predominantly white and wealthy neighborhoods. Mamdani also promised to arrest Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu if he visited New York City, who has a warrant for his arrest issued by the International Criminal Court.
