‘They have made me an enemy’: Alan Dershowitz skewers Democrat party, pledges to back GOP in 2026

Noted Attorney Alan Dershowitz denounced the Democratic Party on “Talkline With Zev Brenner” Tuesday and said he would back Republicans in the 2026 midterms after previously being a Democrat.

Republicans led Democrats by 7% on the economy, 13% on immigration and 22% on crime, according to a Washington Post/Ipsos poll conducted Sept. 11 to Sept. 15. Dershowitz said on Brenner’s show that his former party had departed from key “values,” calling out Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren, New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and New York City mayoral nominee Zohran Mamdani as Democrats he opposed.

“I’m going to be supporting the Republicans in the midterm election. I’m hoping that the Republicans maintain control both of the House and the Senate,” Dershowitz said. “The last thing I want is Chuck Schumer to be head of the Senate or Liz Warren to be chairperson of a committee or AOC to be chairperson of a committee.”

“The Democrats have not only lost my votes, but they have made me an enemy, essentially, by how they’ve moved away from American values, Israeli values and values of decency,” he continued. “I’m not a Republican, but I am a very anti-Democrat. I’m against the Democratic Party. I will do anything to see Mamdani defeated.”

CNN chief data analyst Harry Enten explained on “CNN News Central” Sept. 22 that the Republican Party’s polling heading into the 2026 elections seemed to position them well in comparison to 2022 when Republicans took control of the House of Representatives.

“The GOP is more trusted than the Dems on the economy. It was 12 points in 2022. Slight, slight decline in that lead but still seven points,” Enten said. “How about immigration? It was Republicans by three back in 2022. Look at this. The Republican lead has actually gone up by 10 points. What are you doing, Democrats? My goodness gracious. And on crime, the Republicans were up by 13 and now they’re up by 22.”

Dershowitz announced his departure from the Democratic Party during an August 2024 “Talkline” appearance, citing anti-Israel lawmakers and the 2024 Democratic National Convention’s anti-Israel speakers. He subsequently announced on “The Dershow” Sept. 5 that he would “actively try to defeat the Democrats in the 2026 election,” including by financially contributing to their opponents.
