Chris Cuomo says Elon Musk told him to ‘piss off’ in private message — then blocked him

Daily Caller News Foundation

NewsNation host Chris Cuomo said on his show Monday that X CEO Elon Musk told him to “piss off” in a direct message and subsequently blocked him on his platform.

“The ADL [Anti-Defamation League] hates Christians, therefore it is is [sic] a hate group,” Musk posted on X Sunday, leading Cuomo to insinuate that he was antisemitic in a post responding to it. Musk’s post followed a Sunday shooting at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Michigan.

“The most powerful man in the media just wrote something that would get him fired if he worked for any self-respecting company, let alone a media platform. Okay? If we see an attack on the ADL, the Anti-Defamation League, remember this moment,” Cuomo said, showing a graphic of Musk’s post. “Musk sent this after the shooting with a screenshot from the Jewish group labeling Christian identity as extremist … Everything about this is wrong.”

“And to be honest, I first went to Elon and wanted him to explain this to me because the guy’s a genius, you know? And he told me to ‘piss off’ and then it said I can’t send him messages anymore,” he added. “And I find that regrettable. I was talking to him about maybe doing something on Twitter not too long ago, talked to his people. You know, I don’t believe in just trashing platforms. I think that we all have to be involved in how to get him to a better place. But, you know, he makes whatever choice he makes. I don’t hold it against him personally.”

Cuomo showed a graphic that appeared to be his direct message exchange with Musk as he spoke.

“But I do hold how he runs his business and how he handles himself — I do take that personally. How could he think that the attack on the Mormon church in Michigan was inspired by the ADL?” the NewsNation host asked. “So I guess he does see some limits on free speech because he doesn’t let me have my messages with him. I just wish he would limit his own speech. He must know that that report can’t reasonably have anything to do with what just happened.”

The messages appeared to reference a previous interaction between the two, based on Cuomo saying on “The Chris Cuomo Project” Sept. 11 that he would not be “surprised” if Musk were “murdered” following the Sept. 10 assassination of Turning Point USA (TPUSA) founder Charlie Kirk. Cuomo made the statement after Musk posted “The Left is the party of murder” on X following the assassination.

“By implying that I might be murdered by the radical left, Cuomo is exactly proving my point!” Musk responded to Cuomo’s comments on Sept. 12.

In the exchange Cuomo shared on Monday, he told Musk, “I didn’t say you might be killed by the radical left and you know it,” with Musk responding, “Piss off.”

Cuomo responded by calling Musk’s reply “stupid” and claiming the X CEO must be aware that he was “dumping gas on the fire.”
