‘SHUT IT DOWN’: Looming Dem shutdown poised to backfire bigly, cull bloated gov’t agencies

In what could be seen as stealing a page out of the Democratic playbook (never let a crisis go to waste), there is a report that the Trump administration may respond to a potential government shutdown by culling bloated government agencies.

The Office of Management and Budget suggested in a memo that a permanent reduction of the federal workforce could take place if there is a shutdown, Politico reported.

“In the memo, OMB told agencies to identify programs, projects and activities where discretionary funding will lapse Oct. 1 and no alternative funding source is available. For those areas, OMB directed agencies to begin drafting RIF plans that would go beyond standard furloughs, permanently eliminating jobs in programs not consistent with President Donald Trump’s priorities in the event of a shutdown,” the outlet reported.

Trump rejected a meeting with Democratic leaders earlier this week, explaining his reasoning in a Truth Social post.

“After reviewing the details of the unserious and ridiculous demands being made by the Minority Radical Left Democrats in return for their Votes to keep our thriving Country open, I have decided that no meeting with their Congressional Leaders could possibly be productive,” the president wrote. “They are threatening to shut down the Government of the United States unless they can have over $1 Trillion Dollars in new spending to continue free healthcare for Illegal Aliens (A monumental cost!), force Taxpayers to fund Transgender surgery for minors, have dead people on the Medicaid roles, allow Illegal Alien Criminals to steal Billions of Dollars in American Taxpayer Benefits, try to force our Country to again open our Borders to Criminals and to the World, allow men to play in women’s sports, and essentially create Transgender operations for everybody.”

Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer said the OMB memo warning about the possibility of mass firings is “an attempt at intimidation.”

“Donald Trump has been firing federal workers since day one — not to govern, but to scare. This is nothing new and has nothing to do with funding the government. These unnecessary firings will either be overturned in court or the administration will end up hiring the workers back, just like they did as recently as today,” Schumer said in a statement.

Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) was clear about who would be at fault if there is a shutdown.
