In what could be seen as stealing a page out of the Democratic playbook (never let a crisis go to waste), there is a report that the Trump administration may respond to a potential government shutdown by culling bloated government agencies.
The Office of Management and Budget suggested in a memo that a permanent reduction of the federal workforce could take place if there is a shutdown, Politico reported.
“In the memo, OMB told agencies to identify programs, projects and activities where discretionary funding will lapse Oct. 1 and no alternative funding source is available. For those areas, OMB directed agencies to begin drafting RIF plans that would go beyond standard furloughs, permanently eliminating jobs in programs not consistent with President Donald Trump’s priorities in the event of a shutdown,” the outlet reported.
JUST IN: The White House is planning for MASS LAYOFFS if the Democrats allow the government to shut down, according to Politico.

Trump rejected a meeting with Democratic leaders earlier this week, explaining his reasoning in a Truth Social post.
“After reviewing the details of the unserious and ridiculous demands being made by the Minority Radical Left Democrats in return for their Votes to keep our thriving Country open, I have decided that no meeting with their Congressional Leaders could possibly be productive,” the president wrote. “They are threatening to shut down the Government of the United States unless they can have over $1 Trillion Dollars in new spending to continue free healthcare for Illegal Aliens (A monumental cost!), force Taxpayers to fund Transgender surgery for minors, have dead people on the Medicaid roles, allow Illegal Alien Criminals to steal Billions of Dollars in American Taxpayer Benefits, try to force our Country to again open our Borders to Criminals and to the World, allow men to play in women’s sports, and essentially create Transgender operations for everybody.”
Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer said the OMB memo warning about the possibility of mass firings is “an attempt at intimidation.”
“Donald Trump has been firing federal workers since day one — not to govern, but to scare. This is nothing new and has nothing to do with funding the government. These unnecessary firings will either be overturned in court or the administration will end up hiring the workers back, just like they did as recently as today,” Schumer said in a statement.
Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) was clear about who would be at fault if there is a shutdown.
House Republicans have done our job and voted to fund the government and keep it open for the American people.
Make no mistake, if the Democrats vote no, THEY are to blame for a government shut down.
Even the liberal left mainstream media knows this

Here’s a sampling of responses to the story, as seen on X:
If Democrats do in fact shut down the government, it’s going to give President Trump the ability to permanently fire an extraordinary amount of unnecessary, entrenched bureaucrats from our government.
Pray that Senator Schumer is dumb enough to go forward with the shutdown.

@SenSchumer Thank you for the upcoming Schumer Shutdown and the opportunity it will gives us to cut additional government bloat. Brilliant!

“They asked us to do something that’s totally unreasonable. They never change, they want to give money away to illegals… and we don’t want to do that.” – Trump on democrats trying to force a shutdown.
