‘It doesn’t look like a coincidence’: Karoline Leavitt warns escalator mishap at UN shows pattern of targeting Trump

Daily Caller News Foundation

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said on Fox News Tuesday that repeated mishaps during President Donald Trump’s appearance at the United Nations (U.N.) point to something more deliberate than mere chance.

An escalator suddenly stopped at the U.N. as Trump and First Lady Melania Trump stepped on. During an appearance on “Jesse Watters Primetime,” Leavitt suggested that this seems like a deliberate act as she cited a string of irregularities during Trump’s visit.

“There was some concerning reporting over the weekend from the London Times, as you pointed out, that U.N. globalist staffers were basically plotting to set up the president of the United States,” Leavitt told host Jesse Watters. “And first it was the escalator, then it was the teleprompter, and then Katie Pavlich from Townhall, who we offered a seat in the press pool to cover the president’s historic speech today, noticed that the audio inside of the room was much lower and different for the President of the United States than the previous speaker.”

Leavitt said the Secret Service is investigating and vowed accountability if U.N. staffers orchestrated the incidents.

“So when you put all of this together, it doesn’t look like a coincidence to me. And I know that we have people, including the United States Secret Service, who are looking into this to try to get to the bottom of it,” Leavitt said. “And if we find that these were U.N. staffers who were purposefully trying to trip up, literally trip up the president and the first lady of the United States, well, there better be accountability for those people. And I will personally see to it.”

Earlier today, Leavitt warned on X that any U.N. staffer who deliberately stopped the escalator as Trump and Melania stepped on should be fired and investigated. She cited a Sunday report in The Times that said U.N. employees had joked about shutting off escalators and elevators during Trump’s visit to force him to take the stairs.

Leavitt’s warning comes as a new Gallup poll shows 63% of Americans believe the U.N. is doing a poor job, while only 32% said it is performing well. The survey was released Sunday, just days before the U.N. opens its annual General Assembly debate.

The Senate confirmed former Trump national security adviser Mike Waltz as U.S. ambassador to the U.N. on Friday. In July, Trump announced the U.S. would once again withdraw from UNESCO, citing concerns about left-leaning bias.
