Bear wanders inside a Dollar General store in Jersey, attacks 90-year-old woman

A shocking bear attack left a 90-year-old woman injured in Vernon, New Jersey.

A small female black bear wandered down the aisle of a Dollar General store like any other customer. It reportedly left the location without incident, but returned to the area only two hours later to visit a nearby restaurant. The owner called the police, telling authorities that the wild animal chased some of his employees and even went after his dog.

Then, the bear made a return to the Dollar General store, where it reportedly attacked an elderly shopper and was later led out of the store by a brave real estate agent.

Thankfully, the woman only received minor injuries from the encounter. Authorities determined that the animal needed to be euthanized after its day in town, and NJ Fish and Wildlife will test the bear for rabies and share the results with the public once they come in.

“I went to the store to get some cleaning supplies, and there was a bear in the store,” said 65-year-old Sean Clarkin, hailed a hero for helping remove the bear from the Dollar General store, told the New York Times. “Getting the bear out of the store seemed like the thing to do.”

“The bear tackled my dog, but he didn’t even bite my dog — no scratch marks, nothing,” explained restaurant owner Aaron Glading, who took his dog to the vet following the attack.
