A military helicopter is believed to have crashed in a rural area outside of a military base in Washington State, according to authorities, and investigators are on the scene.

Military officials have confirmed in public statements that the incident occurred in a “rural area” near Joint Base Lewis–McChord, according to multiple reports.. The Thurston County Sheriff’s Office announced that “the military lost contact with a helicopter in the area” and reported they found what is believed to be the crash site.

“This remains a developing situation, and no additional details are available at this time,” Scot Keith, a JBLM public affairs officer, told ABC News.

JBLM and the Army did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment.
