Utah attorney says more charges could be coming as investigation into Kirk’s alleged assassin continues

Daily Caller News Foundation

Utah prosecutor Jeff Gray, who brought charges against the suspected shooter of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk, said Tuesday on Fox News’ “Hannity” that more charges could be filed as the investigation continues.

The 22-year-old suspect, Tyler Robinson, was charged with seven counts on Tuesday, with prosecutors seeking the death penalty for allegedly killing Kirk during a TPUSA campus event. Discussing Robinson’s first court appearance, Fox’s Sean Hannity asked Gray if additional charges were possible as evidence is still being reviewed.

“It’s certainly possible. They’re following all leads that they have. I’m not privy to all their investigation, but they’re continuing to do that. And so if those leads take them to other individuals that may have been involved, then certainly, yes, we would file charges,” Gray said.

Making his first court appearance since being charged, Robinson appeared stone-faced as Utah Fourth District Court Judge Tony Graf Jr. read the charges. Robinson only spoke to confirm his identity.

Robinson faces one count of aggravated murder, one count of felony discharge of a firearm causing serious bodily injury, two counts of obstruction of justice for hiding the rifle and discarding his clothing, two counts of witness tampering for instructing a roommate to delete texts, and one count of committing a violent offense in front of children.

During a press conference earlier Tuesday, authorities outlined how they believe Kirk was murdered by Robinson due to Kirk’s “political expression.” Additionally, officials released text messages Robinson allegedly sent to his transgender roommate, as well as messages his parents sent urging him to turn himself in.

In one message, Robinson allegedly told the roommate to look under his keyboard for a note that said, “I had the opportunity to take out Charlie Kirk and I’m going to take it.”

Bullet casing from the rifle used to kill Kirk found early on in the investigation contained a series of phrases such as “Hey fascist! Catch!” and “If you read this, you are gay LMAO.” A third bullet casing also had the engraving of  “bella ciao,” which matches an Italian song name that became a left-wing anthem during World War II.

During a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on Tuesday, FBI Director Kash Patel confirmed that more than 20 individuals are currently under investigation for Kirk’s assassination.
