Jasmine Crockett justifies calling Trump ‘wannabe Hitler’ after Charlie Kirk assassination

Daily Caller News Foundation

Democratic Texas Rep. Jasmine Crockett on “The Breakfast Club” Friday justified calling President Donald Trump a “wannabe Hitler” following the assassination of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk.

Crockett called Trump, who has faced two assassination attempts, a “wannabe Hitler” during a July interview on MSNBC. During a discussion about Kirk’s assassination on “The Breakfast Club,” she argued that Trump was responsible for violent rhetoric while absolving herself.

“[W]e’ve got to talk about like what it means when you’re running for president or you’re running for one of these higher offices and you go out there and you talk about beating people up,” Crockett said. “You go out there and you say things like, ‘I could shoot somebody in the middle of the street in New York and I could still win.’”

“That is next level. Me disagreeing with you, me calling you a wannabe Hitler, all those things are like not necessarily saying ‘Go out and hurt somebody.’ But when you’re literally telling people at rallies, ‘Yeah, beat him up’ and that kind of stuff, like you are promoting like a culture of violence,” she added. “So, we need to talk about like what it looks like when you don’t promote a culture of violence.”

Crockett also claimed on “American Fever Dream,” in May that Republicans were fundamentally “violent” while dismissing left-wing extremism.

“[I]nherently in like who you are, y’all are violent. And most of your violence has to do with people that’s got a little bit of melanin. But nevertheless, like, y’all are a violent group,” she continued. “Like, you attract violent actors. And like, I’m sorry, I know they tried to make Black Lives Matter out to be the most violent — ‘Oh, what about Black Lives Matter?’ No, no, no. So that’s the thing — like, they try to pretend like that.”

Kirk was assassinated on Wednesday while speaking to a large audience of students at a Utah Valley University (UVU) event. Authorities found anti-fascist messages on the ammunition from the rifle they recovered near the assassination, Republican Utah Gov. Spencer Cox said at a Friday press conference.

The message included phrases like “Hey fascist! Catch!” and “If you read this you are gay LMAO,” according to Cox. The individual accused of murdering Kirk has been identified as Tyler Robinson, 22, Cox announced at the press conference.

Trump called out divisive left-wing rhetoric hours after the assassination.

“For years, those on the American left have compared wonderful Americans like Charlie to Nazis and the world’s worst mass murderers and criminals,” the president said. “This kind of rhetoric is directly responsible for the terrorism that we’re seeing in our country today, and it must stop right now.”
