Charlie Kirk’s assassination shows just how intense political violence has become in the United States

Op-ed views and opinions expressed are solely those of the author.

The law enforcement veteran and InVest USA founder discusses the death of the popular influencer and Trump ally, and what this means moving forward.

Some extremists will go out of their way to be heard in this country. Even if that means silencing someone that has done nothing short of making the ultimate difference.

Just over a year follow the attempted assassination of Donald Trump, Charlie Kirk, a young upstart who was doing his part to drive the youth of tomorrow and support them with good faith and strong messaging, was assassinated by a cowardly sniper some 200 yards away.

At the time of this commentary, police are searching for the suspect. But his actions have already resonated upon this country, with many mourning the loss of a dynamic voice in today’s times. However, what’s more concerning is that this action shows just how far political violence has risen over the past few years.

More and more radical left movement types – as well as those on social media that seem to push them to extremes – are attacking politicians simply because they disagree with them. Remember when Gov. Josh Shapiro was the subject of a targeted arson attack? Or, for that matter, when Minnesota state House Speaker Melissa Hortman and her husband were killed over political motivation? These types of acts have been building and building and building.

But now, with Kirk’s death, they’ve reached a full boiling point.

President Trump wasted no time in explaining the importance of Kirk’s actions, and what they meant for this country. “No one understood or had the Heart of the Youth in the United States of America better than Charlie,” the president noted.

He also poured out his heart when it came to discussing the growth in political violence within the United States. “From the attack on my life in Butler, Pennsylvania, last year — which killed a husband and father — to the attacks on ICE agents, to the vicious murder of a health care executive in the streets of New York, to the shooting of House Majority Leader Steve Scalise and three others, radical-left political violence has hurt too many innocent people and taken too many lives,” he said.

This all ties into a much bigger picture with violence that also involves innocent civilians. Like the Catholic school shooting that left a community reeling. Not to mention the other countless acts in which innocent people have lost their lives, all because one person didn’t know how to control their actions.

Still, if I have seen one takeaway from all this, it’s that some Democrats and Republicans actually agree that this political violence needs to be dealt with. No one should fear for their lives simply because they’re doing their job. And, for that matter, no one should have the power on social media to invoke said fear. It’s absolutely horrible to see them do such a thing.

Trump had plenty to say on this, too He noted that “all Americans and the media to confront the fact that violence and murder are the tragic consequence of demonizing those with whom you disagree” before calling out said radicals that have since been cheering the death of this young man.

That’s right, there are some that are actually happy that Kirk is dead. A father, a husband, a devoted friend and a beloved colleague. I won’t post any responses here but they’re not hard to find.

We need to find that balance. The one that reminds us that, yes, people can have opinions, but by no means does that give them any sort of right to take a life because that certain someone disagreed with said opinion. There is always room for debate, certainly. In fact, that’s welcome because there’s always the chance that, through discussion, some sort of mutual point is reachable.

As it stands now, however, this cowardly shooter has extinguished a life that has meant so much to this country. The repercussions of their actions will likely be felt in the weeks ahead. But the real question is just how much further this level of violence will go.

No one should have to live in fear. I know Kirk sure didn’t. He fought for what he believed in till the very end.

Thank you, Charlie. We shall miss you.
