‘I commend the president’: Ex-DNC official praises Trump for crime crackdown

Daily Caller News Foundation

Former Democratic National Committee (DNC) press secretary Jose Aristimuno praised President Donald Trump on Thursday for cracking down on both domestic and foreign crime.

Trump on Aug. 11 deployed the National Guard to Washington, D.C., and invoked Section 40 of the District of Columbia Home Rule Act to tackle crime and the U.S. on Tuesday struck a cartel vessel in the southern Caribbean. Aristimuno expressed support for these moves on “America Reports.”

“Crime does not discriminate, does not look at color. And when I mean color, I’m talking about red for Republicans and blue for Democrats. If they’re going to go out and kill you, they’re going to go kill you, plain and simple,” Aristimuno said. “So this has to stop. And I got to say, I commend the president with what he’s doing when it comes to crime. And I disagree with Trump in many things, by the way, but crime is not one of them.”

“And we know that drug usage is connected to crime. So we see the countless amount of drugs that are coming in from Venezuela. And what the president is doing to stop that, to stop [Venezuelan dictator] Nicolas Maduro, the king of the drug cartels in Latin America, it gives me great pride,” Aristimuno added. “And those are the type of things that we can collaborate with the president. When it comes to thugs, when it comes to people like Nicolas Maduro, when it comes to crime in D.C. and Chicago, you have to act fast and you have to act swiftly.”

Democratic Washington, D.C., Mayor Muriel Bowser during an Aug. 27 press conference expressed gratitude for the increase of officers during Trump’s crackdown.

“We greatly appreciate the surge of officers that enhance what MPD has been able to do in this city … for carjackings, the difference between this period, this 20-day period of this federal surge, and last year represents a 87% reduction in carjackings in Washington, D.C.,” Bowser said.

The mayor also issued an order Tuesday continuing Trump’s executive order of federal officers in the nation’s capital, which local law enforcement will cooperate with.

There were 92 arrests in the district on Tuesday night, 40 of which were illegal aliens, a White House official told Daily Caller White House correspondent Reagan Reese on Wednesday. Some of the arrests were for violent crimes.

Trump has also suggested sending the National Guard to combat violent crime in Chicago.

America’s strike sank a vessel belonging to Venezuelan drug cartel Tren de Aragua, with 11 cartel members confirmed to have perished in the attack, Trump announced on Tuesday.

“No U.S. Forces were harmed in this strike. Please let this serve as notice to anybody even thinking about bringing drugs into the United States of America,” the president wrote on Truth Social. “BEWARE! Thank you for your attention to this matter!!!!!!!!!!! [sic].”

U.S. forces also deployed to Venezuela’s coast, readying 2 million militia personnel while also deploying ships and drones off the nation’s shores.
