‘Her picture was right there’: Father of Logan Federico slams Democrat rep for misnaming his daughter

Daily Caller News Foundation

Steve Federico, the father of 22-year-old Logan Federico, who was brutally murdered, slammed Democratic North Carolina Rep. Deborah Ross on Monday during Fox News’ “The Ingraham Angle” for mistaking his daughter for Iryna Zarutska.

During a House Judiciary Committee field hearing on Monday, Ross misidentified Logan for Zarutska in front of Federico. She apologized after he called out her mistake. Replaying the clip from the hearing, Fox’s Laura Ingraham highlighted the “carelessness and heartlessness” of the Democratic lawmaker’s statement.

“It was humiliating. I mean, I did my homework before I went to the meeting. I would have known exactly who I was talking to. The meeting was about violence against the innocent, and not knowing who Logan was. Her picture was right there,” Federico said.

“They’re blondes, they’re beautiful,  but not to know who you were referring to, it was a little embarrassing and hurtful,” Federico added.

With Federico at the hearing, titled “Victims of Violent Crime,” the father sat as a witness speaking to lawmakers. While addressing the panel, Ross offered her condolences to Zarutska’s family, pointing to a photo of Logan and saying, “I’m thrilled we have a picture of her in that state right in front of us.”

However, as the lawmaker attempted to discuss crime prevention and improving the mental health care system, Federico interrupted, saying, “This is my daughter, OK? This is Logan Federico.”

Ingraham asked the grieving father how he has been “getting through this,” to which he replied he’s “fighting” for Logan.

“I have to be Logan’s voice because nobody else will be. I don’t have anybody fighting for her,” Federico said. “I don’t have anybody fighting for her justice. Somebody has to fight for the innocent people that are left there. We’ve got to make some drastic changes here in our system. People like Alexander Dickey should not be on the street. People know that.”

“There’s no reasonable argument that somebody can give me why he was on the street. They just can’t, and they won’t. They haven’t. They haven’t even tried. So someone has to stand up,” Federico said. “There’s zero answer.”

In May, Logan was shot and killed during a home invasion while visiting friends at the University of South Carolina in Columbia, according to Fox News. Officials arrested 30-year-old Alexander Dickey in connection with the brutal murder. He reportedly has nearly 40 prior arrests across different North Carolina counties.

Logan’s murder comes just months before Zarutska, a Ukrainian refugee, was also brutally killed in August on a Charlotte light rail train by DeCarlos Brown, who likewise has a lengthy rap sheet.
