Why would Chicago’s mayor choose chaos over order?

Op-ed views and opinions expressed are solely those of the author.

The law enforcement veteran and InVest USA founder discusses the recent actions by Brandon Johnson and what they really say about him as a leader.

It’s been just a few weeks since President Donald Trump announced the federal policing of Washington, D.C., working with officers and the National Guard in an effort to reverse its growing crime numbers. And, despite what people have been saying on social media, it’s been highly effective.

Criminal activity within the state has dropped dramatically, and there actually hasn’t been a murder in just under two weeks. Of course, that doesn’t mean the area is completely cleared of bad apples, but it’s definitely a step in the right direction.

Which begs the question – what state would refuse the offer of assistance to “right the ship”?

Chicago, apparently.

This past week, the Trump Administration noted that it was planning some form of immigration enforcement in Chicago, a city that has clearly fallen on hard times following the poor treatment of its police forces and its questionable leadership. Tom Homan has noted how there will be a “large contingent” of people that would be sent as part of the operation.

And how did the city respond? “Thanks, but no thanks.”

Seriously.

The city, which has no doubt become a haven for illegal migrant criminals and, again, politicians who have no idea how to treat police officers with respect, sank even lower over the weekend. Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson recently signed an executive order noting that the city will do everything in its power to resist President Trump’s attempts to move in and push for better immigration efforts within the city.

With this signing, he believes that the city’s agencies and law enforcement will receive better guidance “in the midst of escalating threats from the federal government.”

“We may see militarized immigration enforcement. We may also see National Guard troops. We may even see active duty military and armed vehicles in our streets. We have not called for this. Our people have not asked for this, but nevertheless, we find ourselves having to respond to this,” Johnson noted.

As a result of the order, Chicago police will now be forced to not “collaborate with federal agents on joint law enforcement patrols, arrest operations or other law enforcement duties including civil immigration enforcement.”

In a nutshell, Chicago is basically forcing its already abused police department to fight against the incoming government assistance, for the sake of protecting illegal migrants and keeping its flow of criminal activity going. All because Johnson has a poor gut feeling about what Trump has in mind for his city.

Does that make any sense to anyone else?

As I noted, Chicago has seen rising crime numbers. It’s literally chaos out there right now. And, I repeat once more, its treatment of police officers is asinine. But, with this order, Johnson will abuse them even further, forcing their hand when all they want to do is make things right.

The mayor basically screamed at Trump to “stand down” in the face of what he has planned for the city, but hasn’t really stated a reason why. He simply uses the excuse that this is not what the people want.

To which I ask, did you even inquire with the people about this, Major Johnson?

Did you go and ask them what they think about the influx of criminal activity? Or how they feel about harboring violent criminal gangs and migrants within their neighborhood? Or, for that matter, how police are being treated by corrupt mayors and Democrats who want nothing more than to keep full control over them?

He’s speaking for a group that he hasn’t even spoken to. He’s just marching to the beat of his own drum, towards a finale that could wear the city down even further.

I implore Johnson to take a closer look at what’s happening in Washington. Ignore the social media screams and just take a good, hard look. Criminal activity is down. The city is returning to its former glory. And the fact that you don’t want that and, instead, want this mess you’re currently in to keep going is very questionable.

It’s almost like you enjoy the way it is.

But, hey, that’s what “the people” want, right?

We’ll see what happens over the next week, but here’s hoping everyone gets on the same page. For the sake of the city, at the very least.
