Salem Radio Network host Scott Jennings told Democratic Mayor Jacob Frey of Minneapolis to “try not to offend anyone” after the mayor attacked those praying for the victims of a shooting in Minneapolis.
Frey’s comments criticizing those who prayed came during a Wednesday press conference after a shooter opened fire during an all-school mass held by the Annunciation Catholic School on Wednesday, killing two children and wounding at least 17 other people. Jennings, on “The Scott Jennings Radio Show,” took aim at Frey, who is facing a leftwing challenger during his reelection bid, on his radio show. “I really don’t know what to say to Mayor Frey,” Jennings said after playing a clip of Frey’s comments. “People of faith turn to prayer in times of tragedy and to decry their prayers, to belittle their faith, to angrily attack those whose faith fortifies them in their own lives, especially on days like today.”

“My, I just don’t know what to say to Mayor Frey, perhaps sir, you’re trying too hard to please a political base,” Jennings said. “My advice, offered humbly, is to shut up for a few hours and try not to offend anyone else as they grieve and recover from this tragic moment.”
Frey’s comments drew praise from Democratic Sen. Amy Klobuchar and CNN host Dana Bash during a segment on the network, during which Klobuchar called for a ban on so-called “assault weapons.”
“Don’t just say this is about thoughts and prayers right now. These kids were literally praying. It was the first week of school, they were in a church,” Frey said during a Wednesday morning press conference. “These are kids that should be learning with their friends, they should be playing on the playground, they should be able to go to school or church in peace without the fear or risk of violence, and their parents should have the same kind of assurance. These are the sort of basic assurances that every family should have every step of the day, no matter where they are in our country.”
During a later press conference, Frey took aim at those who noted reports that the shooter was a biological male who identified as transgender.
“I have heard about a whole lot of hate that’s being directed at our trans community,” Frey said. “Anybody who is using this as an opportunity to villainize our trans community or any other community out there has lost their sense of common humanity.”
