‘I’ve got my teeth in this thing, I’m not letting it go’: Tom Homan shares his plans for Abrego Garcia

Daily Caller News Foundation

Border czar Tom Homan said Wednesday on Fox News’ “Hannity” that illegal immigrant Kilmar Armando Abrego Garcia will be deported despite attempts to keep him in the country.

While the Trump administration sought to deport Abrego Garcia to Uganda on Monday, Obama-appointed U.S. District Judge Paula Xinis ordered that he remain detained in the U.S. until an evidentiary hearing is held. Discussing Abrego Garcia’s criminal past, host Sean Hannity asked Homan if the illegal immigrant is “unsafe” to Americans while being held in the U.S.

“He’s a significant public safety threat,” Homan said. “You got it right. He’s a gang member, designated terrorist, and he’s been ordered removed by two different federal judges. He’s been indicted for human trafficking and alien smuggling. He’s a bad man. And I’m telling you, I’m giving you my word. He will be deported from this country. I got my teeth in this thing. I’m not letting it go. As far as the story now, he’s going to claim asylum?”

“First of all, he’s beyond the required one year. He’s been here longer than that. So he shouldn’t be able to qualify for asylum. If the judge rules on the law, the law is about asylum seekers. You got to be escaping fear and persecution from your home government because of race, religion, political affiliation. Well, he’s not going to his home country, right? So he’s going to either Uganda or any other country we decide to send him to,” Homan added. “What is the evidence that he can present that he’s [going to] be persecuted because of his race, religion, and political affiliation? He’s got to present that evidence. He doesn’t have any evidence. So if the judge rules on the law, he’s gone.”

Since March, Democrats have rallied behind Abrego Garcia after he was deported to El Salvador’s mega-prison by the Trump administration, with Democrat Maryland Sen. Chris Van Hollen leading the push for lawmakers to meet with him in Central America. With the pushback from Democrats, the Department of Justice released documents in April showing local law enforcement had evidence of Abrego Garcia’s alleged MS-13 ties dating back to 2019.

Additionally, while Abrego Garcia’s wife has defended him since the allegations, she had repeatedly accused him of domestic abuse before he was first deported from the U.S. By June, however, the alleged gangbanger was brought back to the U.S. to face criminal charges related to human smuggling.

After his release on Friday from a Tennessee prison, Abrego Garcia was taken again by federal immigration authorities early Monday morning, with the administration seeking to deport him to Africa or Central America. However, Xinis temporarily halted the deportation by the afternoon, saying federal officials were “absolutely forbidden at this juncture to remove Mr. Abrego Garcia from the continental United States.”

According to Abrego Garcia’s attorneys, the Trump administration is offering the illegal immigrant to either plead guilty to the human smuggling charges and be deported to Costa Rica after serving a sentence or deportation to Uganda.
